Green Building
Brytan is a traditional neighborhood community which is designed in way as to lend itself to sustainability. The benefits from building “green” are numerous and include energy savings, reduction of waste, decreased water use, improved indoor air quality and reduced maintenance costs. Additionally, energy costs are reduced and significant savings can be realized during the life of the building.
Is a green home right for me?
If you would like a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle for you and for your family, a green home is right for you. Green homes have lower utility bills, use less water, are associated with fewer asthma attacks, and are at lower risk for mold and mildew. Green homes are better for the environment, and they are affordable.
How are green homes good for the climate?
In the United States, our homes are responsible for 21% of our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions. Living in a green home means that you’re helping to stop the causes of climate change.
Brytan strongly recommends all new homes achieve a third-party green certification. Below is a brief description of the most common green building certifications.

A Florida green building standard which certifies new and existing homes that incorporate various features of green building and addresses issues that are specific to a particular region to promote
a more sustainable Florida. Unlike Energy Star and Building America, FGBC certifications are based on more than just energy use. The entire building process is monitored, from site selection to the finished product. FGCB certified projects must meet a minimum number of points within eight
categories:
>> Energy >> Health
>> Water >> Materials
>> Lot Choice >> Disaster Mitigation
>> Site >> General

Environments For Living is a program based on “building science.” It treats the home as a “system of systems” that work together, and it backs this science with limited guarantees* on comfort and heating/cooling energy use. The program offers your builder different levels of participation. No matter which level your builder chooses, your home will have many distinct advantages over homes that are constructed to meet conventional code requirements. Our flagship level, the Environments For Living® Certified Green program, includes:
>> Energy Efficiency
>> Durability
>> Indoor Environmental Quality
>> Water Efficiency

LEED is a nationwide program that provides homeowners with the knowledge that they have a high-performing green home that costs less to operate and offers lower energy and water bills, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved comfort and less maintenance, reduced exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins, and a third-party verification that a home has been inspected, performance-tested, and certified to meet LEED green building criteria. LEED certified projects must meet all prerequisites and a minimum number of points within seven categories:
>> Location and Linkages >> Water Efficiency
>> Sustainable Sites >> Indoor Environmental Quality
>> Energy and Atmosphere >> Homeowner Awareness
>> Materials and Resources
